Building the community
As we began to consider construction of buildings, homes and businesses on our property, we knew we wanted to aim as high as we could to do things in an environmentally-friendly manner. With no power currently in Puertecitos, we are planning as far ahead as we can and are very willing to stay open to the good ideas for alternative energy that are out there and might be adaptable to our circumstances. As much as we want to have plans in place for all the steps of development, we also want to remain flexible enough to re-work our plans to incorporate newer and better ideas as they are made known. Initially, the offices and stores that open in accordance with the increased traffic will be supported by generators. We will encourage those owners who build homes to investigate and implement alternative energy solutions. Our proposed CC&Rs will allow for solar panels, but also with an eye towards maintaining an overall pleasing aesthetic quality for La Joya Real, thereby doing all we can to sustain curb appeal for all.
Baja is an especially good place to explore “green” building methods. We would like to see building methods that keep as much of the local labor and local material at the forefront. Nudura & Rastra Block are just two of the several ‘alternative-to-wood’ materials already being used in the region. It seems the stars are aligned to take our time and build a community thoughtfully while respecting the natural beauty, the local people and for the benefit of those who become a part of our Baja family.
We eagerly anticipate the eventual arrival of power, whether that be with the opening of the brand new highway or at a date in the future. We know that if we stay ahead of that curve and grow and build with the increasing traffic, we can maintain a good and affordable pace. In the meantime, we hope that by keeping ourselves open to all those innovative ideas that owners may have, we will help to establish a community that fosters an environment for residents to find and implement legitimate means of alternative energy, such that the coming electricity may be of little ultimate consequence other than becoming an adjunct to the already established systems.
